Hidden Door

No sign. No promises.

Rooms you reach through something else entirely: a phone booth, a walk-in refrigerator, a laundromat, an unmarked steel door with a single buzzer. The threshold is the point — once you are through it, the room owes you nothing but a very good drink.

Prohibition Original

Still pouring where it poured illegally.

The genuine survivors — rooms that served through the Volstead years and never stopped. Trapdoors, alley entrances, teacups, bookcase exits. Nothing here is a set. The wear on the bar rail is authentic and roughly a century deep.

Tiki Lounge

Rum, blowfish lamps, no daylight.

Escapist rooms in the Don the Beachcomber lineage: carved figures, bamboo, rattan, ship lanterns, and rum in vessels that no reasonable person would design. Mid-century survivors and modern revival rooms both count, as long as the rum program is serious.

Hotel Bar

Murals, martinis, and patience.

The grand rooms — lobby bars and hotel cellars where the ceiling is painted, the piano starts at five, and the martini is stirred by someone who has done it forty thousand times. Historic landmarks and their well-behaved modern descendants.

Jazz Room

Bars where the music is the reason and the cocktail is the ritual. Basement trios, brick vaults, corner stages that have not moved in seventy years. Expect a cover charge, a drink minimum, and the best two hours of your week.
